From tapered candles to farmhouse decor, the Northrop Antiques Mall has more than 40 vendors and two floors full of unique finds. One such item is the $12 Southport Pickle Fork, made in Southport and comes with a storied history that dates back to the 1980s with a few makers of the unique utensil. All but one of the tines on the fork are curled, leaving one tine long and good for poking the perfect pickle from the jar. The latest artist who creates the fork is Carolynn Hadley. In addition to the longstanding pickle fork, Hadley has introduced the olive fork, the potato fork and the Southport hors d’oeu-vre fork.

This quaint, country store is worth the drive to Sampson County because of its merchandise. The store has several great gift items and lives up to its name – lots of pecan brittle, chocolate covered pecans and pralines in festive holiday boxes. The favorite: Elizabeth’s Exceptional Pecan Brittle. It just like it says on the box – exceptional. The store also carries the newest and needed holiday item – masks. Made locally, the masks are an ode to the town of Turkey with Turkey designs on them. Items are available to purchase online for those unable to make the drive out.

Cape Fear Rum Cake
Who doesn’t love cake? And with rum mixed in, Cape Fear Rum Cake delivers a perfect gift for this holiday season. Shop owner Danny Alvarez said there are two favorites for Christmas 2020 – the Gingerbread Rum Cake and the Egg Nog Rum Cake. The other longtime favorite is the original Golden Vanilla Rum Cake, which is the bakery’s all-time bestseller. Prices vary from $7 to $32 with sizes from 5 oz for one-to-two people to a large cake that can feed 10-to-12 people.

The Bryand Gallery
Love local art? Then it is likely the Bryand Gallery on Front Street in Wilmington has something for you. The gallery features work of over 50 local and North Carolina artists and craftsmen. Bryand’s special photo-art of scenes of the Cape Fear Region range from historic downtown to Wrightsville Beach to Southport and Airlie Gardens and tell the story of the beauty of the region. Items vary from large wall art to photo coasters.

Located in the Old City Market, the Carolina Country Store has items that are created by North Carolina disabled artisans who have mastered their skills. The store offers everything from pickled veggies to vintage soaps, hot sauces to coffee and everything between. The Carolina Country Store even has a gift for the dog in your life with all natural dog treats. This store is unique as Carolina Country Store’s brand products are made by artisans with disabilities.

Hand poured and made on site, this Wilmington candle company has become a staple of downtown Wilmington. The unique scents are special as most include a Wilmington or North Carolina name. And it makes a great gift! Made on site at the store near Burgaw, Wells BBQ Sauce varies in price depending on size. The store also carries a variety of spices, cheeses and gift items.
